Sound problems in slack 10

I set up my server with slack10 about a year ago, maybe, I can't remember... But anyways, I could not get the sound to work, this was not a huge problem as its a server and I just use it mainly as a file server and ssh to it when I need to be on it... But I decided I might as well try to fix it... I did all of the steps I found about alsa

1 run alsaconfig
2 runalsa mixer
3 turn up volumes and unmute everything
4 etc,etc

<crap>It still didn't work..</crap>--web-admin humor...lol I was wondering if this could be a simple fix-- reinstalling alsa maybe-- Or should I recomplie my kernel... I've heard little bits about recompiling the kernel with alsa support built-in(you know what I mean). If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this let me know...

my soundcard is a "audio PCI 9939" maybe... it has "copyright creative labs" stamped on the board... also says "model:CT5803" hope that helps...

This is what I get from lsmod

snd-pcm-oss 37736 0

and this is what my /etc/modules.conf looks like

I'm not sure what exactly either of those mean but oh well... Please shoot back if you know how to fix it or if there is any other info I need to post... Thanks..

The soundcard is a SoundBlaster PCI 128. It might have been branded as an Ensoniq or some other brand, but basically, the soundcore is the same as the SoundBlaster 16.

Here's the installation instructions from Alsa's website:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=ens1371

You may also need to enable OSS for proper playback. Also, check the kernel configuration to make sure that soundcore is enabled (in Module mode, not compiled in), and that you don't have compiled in any ALSA options.
