There are many similar threads about sound, did you follow them?

A quick synopsis:

As root

alsaconf
alsactl store

or

alsamixer (turn the volume up)
alsactl store

If that doesn't work then it is possible that you will have to recompile the kernel to add the correct module.

Although the above advice is good in general.. I think this is a specific toshiba problem.. I have 10.1 running on a Satellite 3000 and had the same problem.. the following should fix it..

You need to disable the sound on your modem.. b/c alsa for some reason detects it as the sound card instead of the real one..

So do an 'lsmod' and find your modem and add it to the hotplug blacklist (/etc/hotplug/blacklist)

my modem was snd-intel8x0m (i think the 'm' at the end should give you a clue)

hope this helps...

Thumbs up thanks

this has helped a lot. I have not tried it yet but it is better then nothing. Problems with toshiba and slackware 10.1 seems to be very common.
