Sound isn't working anymore

hy guys.

I'm using Slackware 13.0 and Win XP Pro.
Yesterday I had to plug off my PCI soundcard (Terratec Aureon 5.1).

After i plugged it in, I could't use my sound nor in linux and windows.

In Windows I'm not able to install the drivers, which were already installed.

How can I solve my problem?
I just plugged my PCI card off, and now I can't use it anymore.

Thanks for your help.

rerun as root

alsaconf
alsamixer (adjust unmute levels)
alsactl store (save settings)

Do this at command line then launch your WM/DE

Does the sound card show up in the output of 'lspci'?

Are you able to adjust the volume level in alsamixer? Do you get any errors when you try to play audio?

If it dos,nt work in XP or Slack...then it looks like its the PCI card... its a hardware fault rather than a software fault...check the card is located correctly and make sure you are properly grounded before touching it or anything in your box... !

Plugged in the card in an other pci slot but also with success.

I can't understand the problem, I just plugged it out and the sound isn't working anymore.
Don't think that the card is damaged.

I know its your second language... LOL the only way to test the PCI card is in another box...if you have onboard sound perhaps you can see if that works...all you can do is be empirical (trial and error) cards and motherboards can be damaged just by touching any of the conducting parts...most humans have around 200 volts floating around their fingers,so its best to be earthed and only touch the non conducting parts...

Thanks for your helps, yes it's my second language

My onboard sound is working, but I bought the pci one, because the onboard hasn't good sound. I'll test the soundcard in another box.

Are you using KMail?
I've found KMail 1.12.2 will kill the sound for the whole system and only a reboot will bring it back.
Once I stopped using KMail, for that and other reasons, the problem went away.

If you have onboard sound and you are trying to install a pci sound card, can you disable the onboard one in the bios? You may be picking up the onboard one instead of the pci one when you run alsamixer and family.
