Sound Doesnt Work on Slack 9.1

I have an Analog Devices integrated audio chipset. It says to use the Ac97 codec but I am kinda confused on what to do anyone want to help me?

ALSA is muted as default.
you should run alsa-mixer (also into X) and setup your favourite volume level and then sound should work fine

I installed the esound server (enlightenment sound server) comes on the slack CD default and blackbox and xmms chose this by default. Sound works fine and I have a Diamond card that ALSA says it does'nt support. You might want to install esound. Wored great for me.

Ok I ran Alsamixer and I found the volumes werent up, so I turned them up and enabled them, some were off, but I still get no sound I did alsactl store too I'm not sure what I am missing?
