sound doesn't match video..

Yes, I've just noticed this today. I compiled the 2.6.7 kernel a few days ago...and have ran into numerous problems (that were my fault.). Would this also happen to be a problem with the kernel? Or something else?

Thanks.

What are you trying to watch and what are your system specs? Also what are you trying to watch it with/how are you starting it?

It might just be plain and simple lag or a bad video file if you are only looking at one file. I know I've run into a couple files that were encoded poorly and it lags and then the sound is off for the entire file.

I'm not sure what the problem was...but it must have been xine. I compiled and installed mplayer..and tried the same video...and it works perfectly.

That's good enough for me..I prefer mplayer anyway.

eh..still having problems actually. When I enter fullscreen...I get

No bind found for key MOUSE_BTN0 % 1.1% 0 0 0%
A: 54.9 V: 54.4 A-V: 0.496 ct: 0.606 1621/1621 2% 41% 0.7% 130 0 0%

**** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
- Try -ao sdl or use ALSA 0.5 or the OSS emulation of ALSA 0.9.
- Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
- Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
- Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try -hardframedrop.
- Broken file
- Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
- Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
- Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/devices.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

and once again...the video doesnt match the sound.

I have an intel pentium 4 processor 2.50 ghz
nvidia geforce 4 mx..
and like..dell integrated sound..but it appears to be working fine.

I'm not sure what the problem is...every distro I've used before..I've never had this problem.

Just so everyone knows..I fixed this by installing the nvidia drivers from here... http://nvidia.com/object/linux_displ..._1.0-5336.html and editing my xorg file .
