Sound does not work as root

As root, I tried playing XMMS. It gave me no error messages, but there was no sound.

I've read other threads and most of them have been permissions problems.

However, I don't even get sound as root.

I just installed Slackware 9.1 and I'm trying to get it to run on a Yamaha DS-XG PCI soundcard.

This is the output I get when I run xmms.

root@localhost:/root# xmms
Message: output format: 7

here is the output I get when I run lsmod:

^^^ from what I discern, it seems as if the system knows that my soundcard exists but its still not working for some reason.

Once I get sound to work as root, I think I will be able to get to work for everything!

-- thanks in advance!

That was it, thanks!

Hey, will I have to do those two commands every time, or is there to put it in a some sort of start up script?

Where's the linux equivalent of "autoexec.bat"?

you can use alsamixer to set your sound channels

type alsamixer choose your sound channel up and down arrow keys to change volume q, e, z and c to increase for each speaker and m to mute/unmute.

then as root type alsactl store to save the config
