Sound always goes to 0 where starting kde

Hey~

When I start KDE I don't hear any sounds, and xmms is also quiet. However if I run alsamixer and turn up the last two options the sound comes through loud and clear. I switched over to root and ran alsactl store as per Insyte (nice site). Howver when I restart KDE it also restarts

Using KDE 3.3.1 and kernal 2.4.26

Thanks

I would start by deactivating everything in KDE that mentions sounds and mixers.
Please also post soundcard model and the name of the last 2 options in alsamixer, they depend on the card

Try adding the alsactl restore command to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file.
good luck.

Do as Hiper says, KDE has it's own mixer settings that will be loaded. That behaviour can be deactivated in the Control Panel (or whatever it's called), I can't tell you exactly where because I don't have it anymore, but do a little search, it shouldn't be hard. It was a checkbox somewhere that said something about load mixer settings.

Thanks Hipper and gbonvehi you guys were right.....

To do this you go to Control Center

Then Sounds & Multimedia

Then Mixer

Then there is a screen that says default volumes.....
there is a box that says Load volumes on login.... I unchecked that and it worked perfect.

By the way I have a VIA advance audio '97 or something like that.....
