sound/ alsa problem

I have installed the latest ALSA and the sound comes perfect in KDE/ XMMS. But in mpg321 the sound comes broken and the quality of music is not good. I use "mpg321 music.mp3" to play the file.

The system is a Slack 9.1 with 2.6.7 kernel.

By sound becoming broken do you mean that the sound is distorted and sounds really bad? If yes then you have the same problem that I had a while ago, the only way that I got around it was to use another program such as amp which is included with Slackware.

There is one program that I highly recommend you get if you haven't got it and that is mplayer, it can play pretty much everything and you can get it from here.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I haven't had precisely the same problem, but I've had similar sound problems playing certain files in mplayer. Perhaps you could try different devicetypes with the "-o" option, like for example "mpg321 -o alsa music.mp3".

people tell me that mpg123(after slack 8)was changed due to so lawsuit and thats why it sounds like that but it can be solved by running mpg123 as mpg123 -o oss(run command alias and change mpg123 to mpg123 -o oss your problems will be solved. after this u can run mpg123 normally without parameters and it will be fine) if this doesnt work u probably need to install the alsa oss module
