Some minor remarks Slackware 14.0
I finally upgraded to Slackware 14.0 from leet. I admit that I loved 13.37, so I was looking forward for this new release.
My impressions so far has been positive. An obviously positive new addition is networkmanager. Up to now I can see that it performs better than wicd, yet I was weary at first as I failed to find and understand the documentation. I got the wrong impression that it should work only only on KDE, but it also works with XFCE. Also I fell in the usual trap that I forgot to give executable permission to rc.networkmanager, but I am happy now.
The flashplayer-plugin.SlackBuild failed, but the one in SlackBuilds.org works fine. The SlackBuild for google-chrome worked perfectly.
I am still happy with KDE, however I noted that when opening a tab in konsole, it fails to source /etc/profile. A small search on the Internet showed me that I simply had to change the profile's command from "/bin/bash" to "/bin/bash -l".
As usual with Slackware, it is reliable and pleasant. The README's and HowTo on the DVD are priceless. Well done to whoever contributed in some way and a big thanks to Pat V.
My feelings too, mostly. I did have some trouble on one of my laptops but it turned out to be the xorg.conf file as configured by xorgsetup. The default setting of one virtual desktop in KDE threw me for a loop for a bit ... I'm used to a default of four. Other than these minor (in hindsight) things, I'm liking Slackware 14.0 as much or more than 13.37. Plan to install on my office server this week. :)
