Hi folks,
One more. We'll call this 13.37 RC 4.6692. Thanks to Nicola for suggesting
the first Feigenbaum constant could be useful since we used pi, and it's too
late for e. This is pretty much it, but last call for any showstoppers.

Thanks for asking!

Foot is healed. Getting around better. I'm going in next week for additional epidurals for spinal pain issues. Those things are painful, no matter how many local injections the docs give you. Not looking forward to the session but hopefully the results will help the pain & inflammation.

Hobbling around and trying to get things done on the farm is difficult but doable. Lot of helpful people in this world and I really appreciate the attention to duties by them that are difficult for me right now. I do things that my body will allow, limited duty.

Spending time on LQ & my system upgrades or rebuilds keep my mind active.

Cave closing soon. All adventurers exit immediately through Main Office.
a/aaa_elflibs-13.37-i486-7.txz: Rebuilt.
ap/mpg123-1.13.3-i486-1.txz: Upgraded.
l/glib2-2.28.6-i486-1.txz: Upgraded.
Thanks to Steve Kennedy for pointing this out, as it fixes a possible crash.
testing/source/linux-2.6.35.12-configs/: Added.
Just in case anyone is intending to follow the longterm branch of the Linux
kernel, here are some sample .config files that may be a useful starting
point. I imagine most people who would want to run this would be using it
on a server, so a few options were tweaked to optimize it for that.
Some of the highlights versus the previous 2.6.35.11 configs:
BLK_DEV_LOOP y -> m
FIREWIRE n -> m
HIGHMEM64G n -> y
HZ 1000 -> 100
MOUSE_PS2_ELANTECH n -> y
PHONET m -> n
PREEMPT_NONE n -> y
PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY y -> n
X86_PAE y
Please, have your ticket ready for loading of the next ride!

Are we there yet???

Little difference between X86_32 & X86_64 changelogs except for time lag for X86_64.

I'd best start wrapping this up or I'm likely to be eaten by a grue.
a/sysvinit-scripts-1.2-noarch-43.txz: Rebuilt.
The block loop device has long been built into the Slackware kernel (since
1993, in fact), but we plan to make it modular in future kernels in the main
tree, and it already is modular in the /testing kernels. To avoid surprises,
we'll load it at boot time if it is modular and not loaded already.
/etc/rc.d/rc.loop: Added a simple script to load the loop device module.
/etc/rc.d/rc.S: Run the rc.loop script if it is executable.
l/jre-6u25-i586-1.txz: Upgraded.
extra/fvwm-2.6.1/fvwm-2.6.1-i486-1.txz: Added.
The location for the system config file moves to /etc, and there isn't one
included yet for fvwm-2.6.x. But that makes it more fun, right? :-)
extra/jdk-6/jdk-6u25-i586-1.txz: Upgraded.
isolinux/initrd.img: Rebuilt.
usb-and-pxe-installers/usbboot.img: Rebuilt.

Hi,

Slackware 13.37 is released!

It's true! Slackware 13.37 has been released. Nearly a year in the making, you will appreciate the performance and stability that can only come with careful and rigorous testing. Slackware 13.37 uses the 2.6.37.6 Linux kernel (hence our new $SLACKWARE_VERSION.$KERNEL_VERSION naming system used for this release ;-), and also ships with 2.6.38.4 kernels for those who want to run the latest (and also includes configuration files for 2.6.35.12 and 2.6.39-rc4). The long-awaited Firefox 4.0 web browser is included, the X Window System has been upgraded (and includes the open source nouveau driver for nVidia cards). The venerable Slackware installer has been improved as well, with support for installing to btrfs (for those who would like to try a new copy on write filesystem), a one-package-per-line display mode option, and alienBOB's big surprise: an easy to set up PXE install server that runs right off the DVD!

More details may by found in the official announcement and in the release notes:

http://slackware.com/announce/13.37.php
http://slackware.com/releasenotes/13.37.php

For a complete list of included packages, see the package list:

http://slackware.com/releasenotes/packages13.37.php

Please consider supporting the Slackware project by picking up a copy of the Slackware 13.37 release from the Slackware Store:

Hi,

Everyone needs to use torrent for now. Please seed! Remember for x86_32 install you will need ISO disc1, ISO disc2 & ISO disc 3, if you need KDEi then get Install ISO disc 4. Important note 'Install ISO disc 4' does have '/extra'.

Torrents for Slackware 13.37, 32-bit x86

Slackware 13.37 x86 Install ISO disc 1 (A/AP/D/E/L/N, bootable installer, kernels, testing/, Slackbook)

Hi,

While the dust is settling for 13.37, I was reaching out. My TODO list is getting out of hand. Found that Easter Egg! Weeks after Easter and my basket is over flowing.

Alien_Bob has done it again;

Out of the box PXE install server in Slackware 13.37I had a lot of fun creating my Easter Egg for Slackware 13.37. It did not matter that Pat announced it on the slackware.com front page – it’s OK that it got some exposure. The added functionality is useful enough.
So, why an easteregg at all… and what about that PXE server?
Now that is a real Easter Egg. Thanks Eric!

Hi,

Things have been a little out of order around here for me. Some personal health problems have limited my LQ activity. Things are looking better daily. Getting back into a routine.

So you want to install the new Slackware 13.37 and do not have a CD/DVD. What do you do? USB/PXE are very good install methods for users. Really not that hard. Alien_Bob has made things easy for you. Checked out: For pxe: Do look at usb-and-pxe-installers on the install media for information.

Out of the box PXE install server in Slackware 13.37 is a detailed post of how to setup the pxe server. Again, Alien_Bob has provided users with detailed information for a good install method.

HTH!

Hi,

Dugan is updating Beautiful Fonts in 12.1 to align with 13.37;

The biggest change is that I'm discontinuing the patched packages. Instead, I'm now providing step-by-step instructions to either enable the default Freetype subpixel renderer, or to apply the infinality.net patches.

Comments please.

The old version is still at http://www.vcn.bc.ca/~dugan/slackware-fonts/index.html and will remain online for another day or so.
So any help would be appreciated.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but maybe it might be better here. For those who install Alien Bob's KDE 4.6.3 packages on 13.37, edit /etc/slackpkg/blacklist, and add this:
Code:
# KDE deps
akonadi
attica
ebook
grantlee
hunspell
libatasmart
libbluedevil
libdbusmenu-qt
libssh
PyQt
QScintilla
sg3_utils
sip
soprano
system-config-printer
udisks
upower
virtuoso-ose

# KDE itself
bluedevil
k3b
kaudiocreator
kdeaccessibility
kdeadmin
kdeartwork
kdebase
kdebase-runtime
kdebase-workspace
kdebindings
kdeedu
kdegames
kdegraphics
kdelibs
kdemultimedia
kdenetwork
kdepim
kdepim-runtime
kdepimlibs
kdeplasma-addons
kdesdk
kdetoys
kdeutils
kdewebdev
kwebkitpart
oxygen-icons
polkit-kde-agent
polkit-kde-kcmodules
polkit-qt
Otherwise, if you use slackpkg, you'll have a lot of deselecting to do, or revert to KDE 4.5.5.
