So many devices
yo!
i just began using slackware on an old pentium 90 laptop, and this is my first time dealing with linux. as it is a 90mhz, i opted out of the graphical interface, and im now trying to learn linux as just commandline. while trying to mount my cd drive earlier, i noticed that i must have had 2000 devices listed in my /dev everything from hda-q with 55 partitions a piece, the same with sc's, cu's, some djs, eda and edb, fb0-9, fd0-3 for what must be every single line of floppyies drives ever made, ippp0-63, isdn0-63, isdnctr0-63, md0-16 and so many others its ridiculous to list i did find where my cd was located at (hdc) eventually, but im pretty sure that all those other devices to dont belong there my fstab looks like /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto, owner,ro 0 0 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto, owner 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 so i think most of those other devices are extraneous, but which ones can i actually eliminate? much appreicated |
