snort errors keep coming!
 

OK here the lowdow...

im runing slackware8.0 wit 2219kernal, i have just installd snort 190 and when i try runing snort i get these errors msgs...

1-as normal user
error:openpcap() device eth0open
socket:operation not permitted
fetal error,Quiting...

2-as root
error:unable to open rules files:/root/.snortrc or
fetal error, quiting...

1. Prolly root privs. Snort needs root privs on startup, it'll drop those after.
2. -c <config file> which should reside in /etc (LFS) or /etc/snort (where the updates put it)

U sure btw it's a "fetal" error? :-]
