Hi all,

A question for the networking gurus. I have previously used the ralink rt2500 driver from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com, and have gotten good throughput speeds around the 4Gb download and 512Kb upload speeds, which are to be expected given my distance from the local exchange.

With the advent of Slackware 12.2, I have been experimenting with WICD, as this seems the way to go, but it will not work with the rt2500 driver.
I have subsequently disabled that driver, and instead am using the rt2500pci driver that is built into the kernel and this allows WICD to work.

So far, so good. But, with the kernel driver, my throughput speeds drop to less than 512K down and 64K up.

And so to the question. How to get the speeds up with the kernel driver, or how to use the ralink driver with WICD. Either/or will do.

If you have problems with the kernel driver, they'd love to hear from you on LKML. Just delete the other 5000 emails per day arriving. They do go on a lot there. The list is hosted on vger.kernel.org last heard.

I foresaw all these issues and went the hard wired route at home. I have never regretted it, but everyone who goes wifi seems to sooner or later.

If the old driver worked with previous slackware versions, try to get the source and compile it on slack-12.2 as it is probably a library issue. You'd then be compiling against current libs. I'm sure that maintainer would love to hear from you too.

Hi business kid,

I am currently using the original rt2500 driver which compiled just fine. It would be nice though if either it worked with WICD, or the built in kernel driver gave me full speed. As it stands at the moment, I am sticking with the original driver. Maybe the next iteration of the kernel will have better drivers.
