SLAX question.

Has anyone used SLAX before? Is it BIG in size like Knoppix or is it small in size on the cd? I am looking for something that will work on P2's and higher to run from the cd to read and write from a USB and CDRW.

I've not used it extensively.

It fits on one of those 196Mb CDs (80mm diameter)

I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a P2, though KDE will probably be slow. You need >512Mb of memory to load the whole thing to memory thus freeing up the CD drive for other cds

Slax is great...I've used most of the versions and I keep them around as service/repair disks. There are versions from about the 50M size and up. You can run some of them (most, actually) in RAM. And they have a forum where you can find out how to install it on a USB drive.

Haven't you see the web site and forums?

I am looking for somthing like blackbox or some other smaller desktop. I really don't want to tax any system that I am most likly going to use it on. I will post somewhere else about smaller desktops. Thanks.

Thanks, can I get it run from a command line and not boot to a desktop?

No, I didn't see the web site and forums. I will go and make some noise.

Yes, you can even load Slax Frodo, which is about 50M and has only command line.

In fact, none of the Slax that I know of boot to desktop. They all boot to command line and have a very nice info screen showing you how to start the desktop.
