Question Slapt-get gone?

I know there is a lot of controversy out there on the various APT style tools for slackware, but I didn't post this thread for opinions. I use Slapt-get, I like it... it helps me maintain my "Current" install relatively painlessly.

What I was wondering is if it is a dead project? I don't think it would be because it is still listed on Fresh Meat and other sites, but I can no longer connect to the site's homepage (http://software.jaos.org) it always times out. Anyone know anything about this?

Code:
host http://software.jaos.org/
Host http://software.jaos.org/ not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
Maybe he forgot to extend his registration?

He probably upgraded with slapt-get and crashed the server the page was on.

slapt-get

Try a mirror site or linuxpackages.net.

I have noticed problems connecting with jaos.org before, but it is near the end of the month, perhaps the site has exceeded its bandwidth limit or something. It is quite frustrating not being able to get the source code though.

The hostname still seems valid:

host software.jaos.org
software.jaos.org is an alias for jaos.org.
jaos.org has address 69.133.237.66

Same here, I never understood all the 'controversy' over slapt-get, I've updated to -current with it for quite some time without ever having a single problem. (Given I haven't tried other tools like swaret so I can't speak for those). Obviously you can't just blindly do a --upgrade every day and hope everything works. Like any tool, you should confirm the output and make sure these are packages you want to upgrade before you do any upgrade. People seem to think they can just let this tool do the thinking for them. And with that attitude, many tools will badly screw up your system.

very true... reading changelogs and knowing what you are upgrading is a must no matter how you choose to do it... this just seemed to be much easier than going to the slackware FTP website, hand picking and download the packages I want, and then upgradepkging them. the tool still works, I just had to comment out the http://software.jaos.org section to get the current package lists, which of course only looks for new versions of slapt-get anyways... but like I said I didn't start this thread for debates... I just wanted to know if anyone knew what happened to the website.
