Slapt-get & gimp-2.0rc1-i486-1.tgz

Anyone else have slapt-get bail on gimp-2.0rc1-i486-1.tgz?

I'm running slapt-get --upgrade using the slackware-current tree. I've tried mirror: http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/slackware-current/

From http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/sla.../PACKAGES.TXT:

Quote:
PACKAGE NAME: gimp-2.0rc1-i486-1.tgz
PACKAGE LOCATION: ./slackware/xap
However, http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/sla...slackware/xap/ shows only:

Quote:
gimp-2.0pre4-i486-1.tgz 16-Mar-2004 20:44 9.0M
I noticed the same discrepancy (naturally) on a couple of other mirrors I looked at.

Shouldn't PACKAGES.TXT and the package in the directory match as to name? Does this kind of thing typically happen (name mismatching)? I haven't encountered this sort of thing before.

I would imagine that the discrepancy is what's causing slapt-get --upgrade to bail when it gets to the gimp package. For now I just added "gimp" to the exclude line in the slapt-get config file in /etc.

I didn't have problems with any other packages.

My guess is that either the mirror is not yet fully synced or from the time you updated slapt-get to the download started something was updated. It usually takes the mirrors a while to get fully synced. Unfortunately the demand starts up with tremendous pressure on the servers before the process is complete.

Thanks for the information. That certainly makes sense to me.

Especially considering the one source I didn't check last night was ftp://ftp.slackware.com.

I see now that ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...t/PACKAGES.TXT shows:

Quote:
PACKAGE NAME: gimp-2.0.0-i486-1.tgz
PACKAGE LOCATION: ./slackware/xap

And, of course, ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...slackware/xap/ shows:

Quote:
03/24/2004 02:17AM 9,806,254 gimp-2.0.0-i486-1.tgz
I'll look for information on the mirror-syncing and see if I can learn how it works, etc.
