slapt-get
 

I'm using slapt-get to keep up to date with my system (9.1) and packages. I've noticed that linuxpackages has by far the newest and most packages (the standard installed links didn't gave me 1 update, linuxpackages 50!) So nothing to complain about accept that linuxpackages is so hard to connect to. It takes ages to get a few packages done and most of the time I need to retry about 3 times. Are there any other good links to add?

for linuxpackages.net i believe there is only that one link that you can use.
you can try useing swaret to see if it works better with linuxpackages

So far I have updated my Slackware system by hand, so I got interested in this thread. Can you provide a (brief!) note of what slapt-get and swaret are and do, and where I can possibly find detailed information about them?
I am still learning a lot about Slackware every day (and I enjoy that!), so can you also tell if these programs are included in the standard distribution, and if, in what package series.

Well, I turned to swared. Worked brilliant! Updated about all pkg I have on the system and comes with a nice gui (which I haven't been able to install ;))

Swared isn't included but can be easily downloaded as a pkg at linuxpackages.net. Just run installpkg swared as root and you're set! Usage is explained during install.

I agree...I use swaret. Being a newbie to Slackware it is great. Simple to use and gets the job done. Two thumbs up.

Ok, once I have my system up and running again, I'll give swared a try. Thank you all for your replies.

Hi I'm new to this I downloade swaret but dont know how to install, I first used rh wich have installers I think named rpms(new to linux)but I'm interested on learning.How and what do i need to instal swaret. Please

What exactly do Swaret and similar do? Do they just ./configure=>make=>make install for you?

I'm curious what all of the talk is about.

Sort of like what Up2date does for Redhat.
