I used aes. Failed on 64 bit, worked as expected on 32 bit.
That's why I doubt that the problem is related to a particular algorithm.

Currently I think, that chuckie's post lights the way, as it also fits to what Alien Bob said above: It's a confirmed bug with static cryptsetup.
