the native r8712u. anyway playing a bit I figure out that the connection is not very good. the signal is excellent however when now I type any address firefox is hanging ...
ping to any ip address does not work. .... still trouble. resolv.conf is okay with the right 192.168.1.1 of my router. ifconfig says that i have 192.168.1.3 so now i do not understand why does not work ....

That's why I use the Realtek driver variant... :)

In fact, also I suspect that r8712u have also some power management issues and the connection is unstable, behaving exactly like you described.

Then, I wanted to make 8712u to work with the current kernels, to have an official driver POV about my wireless card.

Knowing C/C++, I created that little patch to fix the compiling, still being an great lazy, I accepted that messages pollution, without to try to fix the cause(s), because I use that card on an computer that is not "mission critical", to be honest, it is used for something like web browsing and Skype conversations.

And, for me, the (patched) 8712u works fine and stable, without great problems.

I think your router configuration might be a problem as well. There's no way you could get the symptoms you do because of a wifi card.

I recommend using wicd or Network Manager for connecting. I also recommend setting your router to reserve an IP for each computer on your network based on MAC address, this way there are no conflicts.

r8712u works just fine for me, without any of the issues you said.

@Darth Vader: i applied your patch using the 3.4.12 kernel and the things go in the same manner. very unstable. slow.
@H_TeXMeX_H: you are probably right. However this problem arises only when I use slackware.

Let me explain better my experiments. Starting slackware with kde and so networkmanager the pc is connected. however i can navigate only on few webpages. no gmail no youtube no google. the connection is slow.
Then, in slackware, no matter what drivers I use (r8712u or 8712u), the resolv.conf has the right dns (192.168.1.1 the router). No problem at all if I use ssh connection to any ip address. So I tried to change the dns number on resolv.conf (i.e. 4.2.2.2) and internet connection improves a bit (i can connect after a while on google). Finally, as soon as I start another pc (netbook bearing kubuntu) the connection on my slackware drop down no matter what drivers I use.
If on the same pc I run kubuntu live bearing 3.2.0.x kernel the connection is fine and fast with no problems.
So the opened questions are basically: my wifi card is crap :) (do you have any suggestion of a usb wifi for my dlink router) and probably with slackware I need to change something in my router, such as the dns server. but why this does not happen with other linux distributions.

Continuing the Saga...

I just discovered that replacing the rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin firmware file with the version attached at this post, my wireless connection become much more stable, without disconnections. And even the native R8712U driver works fine... :)

This is the firmware variant with the size of 129304 (the added .txt extension is for making happy the forum engine).
