What version of slackware are you running and what make and model are your printer? If you post more information you are more likely to get a reply. Its hard to diagnose with so little information.

I found using CUPS was easier that apsfilter with my USB printer. You may find this method easier. Simply use pkgtool to alter the services and run the CUPS server. You can then run the CUPS server without having to reboot by doing (as root of course):-

chmod u+x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups

to make the file executable, then

/etc/rc.d/rc.cups start

to start the cups server. The open your browser and type in localhost:631 which will take you to the cups configuration. Manage Printer then Add Printer will take you to the right bit. You only need to fill a name in, then select your printer from the device list on the next page. As long as your LPT1 is working it should be recognized. CUPS supports the 6P, I checked in the list. Good luck!

Should i download and install CUPS?

Cool

Hello Harpo:

Installing printer on Slackware is relatively easy.

Slackware uses apsfilter program to install printers.

Instructions:

1. cd /usr/share/apsfilter
2. run ./SETUP
3. Follow instructions on screen until installation is complete.

ps. You might have to try several printer drivers (if not found from the drivers list) to troubleshoot printing problems.

But once the driver is install print using : lp -Pprinter_name file_to_print.

Hope this helps.
