Hey. Slackware pretty much saved my laptop from the trashcan. Anyway, I installed swaret, but that didnt work. I know that swaret can uses the packages from linuxpackages.net. I also noticed that linux packages is full of packages for the i486 architecture. Right now im on a i686 kernel. So I was whondering if installing i468 packages on my i686 system will mess anything up? Also, could anyone link me to some good slackware package sites, or just an easy way to get updates?
I have been using slackware for about a year now, and all I have been using is the dropline update program for any updates.
'automated package manager' you mean? Yea. Let him find out for himself when swaret/slapt-get trashes his system... Actually, lot's of people never have a problem with it from what I hear. I prefer to use wget and upgradepkg myself...
If your box is i686 then installing i486 packages is fine. They are backwards compatable. If you noticed almost all Slackware packages from slackware.com are i486... You wouldn't want to install i686 packages on an i486 box tho...
Im not really looking for an automated package system, but rather a good place to get packages. Since i486 packages will work with a i686 system, then ill just stick with linuxpackages.net.
The first two are just mirrors I think; the others have other packages too and are disabled as I'm doing what I might call a "core install" I'm more tentative about installing packages outside the slackware tree but am doing a mass upgrade for other packages.

Hi,
You could goto slackware.com and pickup the packages link.
