Slackware OpenOffice gnome-integration Package
 

Hi; I'm trying to install OpenOffice Beta 2 under Slackware 10.2 by converting the RPMs into .tgz packages. My plan is to combine all of the .tgz packages together into one giant OO.o master-package, from which I will install. Now, Slackware 10.2 doesn't come with GNOME, nor do I really care to install it. So my question is this: will installing the gnome-integration package mess everything up if GNOME itself isn't installed?

In other words, should I (and is it safe to) remove the gnome-integration package from the OpenOffice Beta 2 installation? Thanks.

If this is just the stuff in the integration folder, it is just menu entries, I removed the folder before I created a tgz and all works well.

The contents of the package are only this:

You can therefore safely ignore it (although I install all packages with a KDE desktop). AFAIK, you only need all the core packages, plus the others on top for the applications you require. The menu packages are completely useless for Slackware without extra work to start with to fix directory locations and symlinks.

The core??u packages contain symlinks - makepkg has to convert these to an install script, otherwise Slackware doesn't handle removing them properly when removing the package.

Renaming A Sub-Directory
 

Another quick question: will it work to rename .../opt/openoffice.org1.9.125 to .../opt/openoffice? Has anybody tried it and failed/succeeded?

This probably has to do with how the program addresses its own files, whether it uses absolute or relative paths...

It appears to work fine here, so I imagine it will work on your end (although I am using the 1.9.128, but I doubt that has any bearing).
