slackware on usb
hi there,
is there a way that i could transfer my slackware in a usb so that i could get my os "on the go"? more like having my computer to boot in a usb then continue my work. i saw slax thats why i'm wondering if i could do the same on my slackware. thanks.. |

Now, do you want a Slackware install to usb as it would to hdd? or you want to make a Slax-like derivative? or do you wanna use a pre-made Slax derivative based off 13.1/current? |

You could just install Slackware directly to the USB memory stick, treating it like a hard drive (because it is a USB hard drive, as far as the interface treats it). I've done that (with more than one distro, on different USB memory sticks and even SDHC memory cards). It is a unique system that way. You can put less software on it, as desired (since it is a smaller drive), to have more space for files.
When doing the install on a regular computer, either be very very careful not to format the base drive in that computer, or unplug it while the power is off to be safe. Then boot the install media and plug in the USB memory stick. It should tell you the drive name before you run setup. If not, do "cat /proc/partitions" and figure it out. |

I use this little script (mostly borrowed :-) ). You'll need to drop the ".txt" from the name.

the kits contain the raw ingredients to remaster your existing Slackware
install into a bootable livecd/dvd/usb that has persistent saves. basically, you just install the pkg.txz and then run the build script in /root/linux-live folder ./build and it will ask for name of livecd and where kernel is..usually vmlinuz is a symlink to vmlinuz-*version Quote:

remastering just means your gonna install some distro, set it up as you like, with desktop of your choice, settings, wallpapers, etc
and then you transform it into a livecd/dvd/usb what are you computer specs? type, ram, etc? |
