Yes, it is a reference to 3DFX games. I really did use it as an alias 20 years ago, making it obvious I had the graphics hardware when I was in an FPS match. Today, it takes a slackware user to recognize this finally?

Hehe. nice of you to admit your (then) hardware advantage over your foes up front I remember seeing hardware-accelerated Quake 2 on my cousins Voodoo2 for the first time and being blown away by the bilinear filtering. Got my own Voodoo3 within a week or so!
