Slackware on 8GB USB-pendrive

Hi, as in the title I want to install Slackware on USB pen-drive. I mean full installation not squashfs or anything similar. System is aimed to run on old notebook. I always prefer light desktop. I need HOWTO's "Slackware on USB". Also any suggestions are very welcomed. Stick memory aproximately is dived into half: 4GB for system and applications, 4GB for users data ( /home/$USER).

Hi,

a full Slackware64-14.2 weighs 8.1G without any user data or additional software just after installation, so you will need at least a 16GB USB pen-drive. And setting only one partition only would certainly help save space.

Other than that, see:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ve-4175559562/

Anyway, my advice would be not to use an USB stick for a full (no sqashfs) installations I have read (I can't remember where now, sorry) that you would wear out the device very fast with all these I/O. So if you can afford it, use a USB hard disk instead.

Why are you opposed to a squashfs implementation? Having used Alien Bob's Slackware Live, it worked great and I had no problem building and compiling any packages I threw at it. That also included steam and multilib.

A few versions back I did just what you want to do. Partition and format the stick and install. No problemo

You will have to install the very miminum for 4 gb which means just installing A, Ap, L N. and nothing else, May still have to remove some items from ap and l to fit in 4GB. If you want X, will still have to eliminate some things to make fit in 8GB, and will leave very little room for user data. As suggested will be best to use squashfs as a full install on a pen drive(regardless of size) tends to be sluggishly slow.
