Slackware not booting after install

I am using a Dell Latitude C800 laptop (PIII processor, 2 PCMCIA slots with nothing in them, CD-ROM drive, Mini PCI LAN/modem, etc. etc.)
I dual-booted Slackware 9.0 alongside Win98 and installed Lilo to the MBR, and Lilo and all that work fine. The problem is when Slack itself stars booting, the last three lines displayed are:

cardmgr[66]: watching 2 sockets
cs: IO port probe 0x0c00-0x0cff: clean.
cs: IO port probe 0x0800-0x08ff:

and then nothing, the system just halts. How can I resolve this?

I had that problem when i run cardmgr seperately. It just turns out that it detected a card that was crap to it's eyes, and it doesn't know what to do.

So, uh, how do I fix it? I'm a recovering Mandrake user, and so I'm not familiar with these fancy-schamnncy "config files" you young whipper-snappers use =P

I don't know what solean did, but ...
one way would be to pass single as
a parameter to the kernel at the lilo
prompt, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.M and comment
out the bit that starts pcmcia ...

You can then boot the box, start it up
manually and try to figure out why it
stuffs up ...
