For fun I thought I would play around with Slackware Live tonight. It works perfectly (great work Eric), however I have to boot with the "nomodeset" option, otherwise I get "no display signal" error. I get this error with other live distro's like parted magic because of my nvidia 970 video card. I did see that Slackware Live has binary nvidia drivers and I tried loading them on the grub command line with "load=nvidia" but it didn't work. I'd like to get a higher resolution than 1024x768, which is all you get I can get right now until I get the nvidia drivers working. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

The Live booot command option "load=nvidia" does not have any effect if the Nvidia driver is not included on the ISO.

What happened was that I could not get Nvidia binary drivers to work reliably in a Live environment with persistence.
What I wanted is that you can decide to use "load=nvidia" and you would get to use the Nvidia binary drivers.... and next boot when you would decide not to use "load=nvidia" (or forgot to add that string to the boot command) you should be running cleanly without the Nvidia drivers.
However, once you've used "load=nvidia" there will be remnants of the Nvidia drivers in the live system (in case you are using persistence of course) so you end up with a partly broken Live OS when you do not add "load=nvidia".
Therefore I no longer add a module for Nvidia binary drivers to the Live ISO. Note that only the Plasma 5 ISO ever shipped binary Nvidia drivers. The other ISOs never have had them included.

I started playing with it again about a half and hour ago. I just ended up blacklisting nouveau with "modprobe.blacklist=nouveau" and booted into runlevel 3 and installed the binary drivers with the .run file provided by nvidia. This works fine for me, granted, like you said, if there was no persistence I would have to do it every time, but this is a sufficient work around.
