Slackware Linux 13.0-RC2 ATI open source driver mouse animations blocky

All,

I post this here because I've never dealt with ATI before (but I'm helping a friend get rid of Windows XP 8-)
She has an old Dell laptop (centrino type) with an ATI Radeon RV250 (Mobility FireGL 9000). Using Slackware Linux 13.0 -rc2 (clean install, full install) she gets blocks when the mouse cursor tries to animate. The cursor just turns into a big block, sort of.
Her X.org is not configured but seemed initially to be working fine. She is using the generic-smp kernel (via initrd).
I don't know what information to include that would help out so if anyone has anything they need let me know. I didn't find anything on the topic on google initially but I will keep looking. Thanks!

boot into run level three. log in as root and type xorgsetup as long as you are not using a nvidia graphics card 6000 series or up everything should be right.
try it. since you are using ati graphics card slackware will do all the default stuff for you and your mouse and key board should all work with your ati card.
Run level 3 is default for slackware ok.
