Slackware being the best distro - what do you rate as second best ?

I'm interested in peoples opinions of other Linux distros.

Preferably another distro used in earnest.

I see "Red Hat " and "Fedora", so who is "Suse": SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop or openSUSE?

Best for what? Best for entry-level user, best for gamer, best for uber-geek-haxor? Best for grandma pat, best for 31337, best for bill gates....

Best, slack, agree.
I use openSUSE because my work uses novell tools, and I need to play nice with their tools
Love gentoo and LFS just because geeks need to have a "I managed to get X to work in LFS" bragging rights
ubuntu is good for those that have never touched a computer before, or linux before, very user friendly, for linux.

This poll is to do with Slackware. It's asking people who use Slackware - given the title presumably as their primary distro - what would be their second choice. Distrowatch and other polls are not targeted at Slackware users per se.

Sorry if I've ruffled any feathers here - I am just interested in Slackware users second favorite.

I should have made the choices more clear but i suppose I refer to openSuse when giving Suse as a choice.

I like Slackware, Solaris and BSD. Apart from Debian and Gentoo I don't really care about any other Linux distributions, because they're mostly either derivatives or lack the necessary qualities for me to consider them.

I would say LFS, I liked Gentoo when I used it but too much dependencies LFS is cleaner.

Thanks for the replies.

I too have built LFS - it took forever on an old machine but it was certainly informative, I've just freed up my LFS partition - hence the question.

I've also got FreeBSD on another box but most of my time is spent with Slackware 12 or current.

I plan to install another distro on the freed up space - variety being the spice of life and all that !

In fact, I was considering reinstalling slack 11 cause 12 feels too polished or something...

I chose "other" cause the only other distro I ever use is Knoppix.

My first distro was Mandriva a few years ago which came free as an installation disk from a magazine. I have tried a number since. I am a KDE sort of person so I would have to say that once I configured Slackware I havenot tried other KDE based distros. If I had a choice of Gnome based distros then it would be toss up between Debian and Ubunto.

OpenBSD. Depending on usage, one could make a good argument that they are reversed.

Really, I cannot name a #2, because if I weren't using Slackware, I probably wouldn't be using Linux.

I guess I could probably use LFS, but it would take forever to get it up and running and if something went wrong, well I typically don't have time to start over. Time is important, so really Gentoo and LFS are pretty much out of the question ... they're only for bragging rights, IMO.

I think it's all a matter of perspective really. I've only ever used Ubuntu and Slackware, so I put Ubuntu in the No. 2 spot. I was looking for a point-and-click, windows-like distro to start out with, and that's not a bad thing at ALL if it gets people's feet through the Linux door. But Ubuntu bored me quickly and I decided to do my real 'learning' on Slackware.
