In short this is what you need to do
----------------------------
Slackware - First Boot
The first time Slackware 9.0 was booted the system hung when PCMCIA cardmgr started. Luckily I had seen this documented at the Linux on Laptops web site. Owen Cliffe's website listed some modifications to /etc/pcmcia/config.opts . Since the system wouldn't boot, a KNOPPIX bootable CD was used to boot the system and modify the file. Another option would be to use the Slackware Install CD as it too can be used for this type of problem.
The laptop was booted using a bootable Linux CD, the Slackware partion was mounted read-write, the file /etc/pcmcia/config.opts as follows: from include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0x800-0x8ff,port 0xc00-0xcff to include port 0x100-0x4ff,port 0xc00-0xcff (credit to )Mark Holbrook and the system was rebooted. Once the changes were made Slackware booted quickly without any problems.
