Any difference between the official/unofficial books?

The Slackware Handbook Project is a project that Mad Penguin announced on January 25th that's going to attempt to be an up to date Slackware handbook, similar to the FreeBSD handbook. It's also meant to be the most comprehensive document project for Slackware. If you register, you can go contribute to the project right away.

Considering Mad Penguin's fanatical devotion to Slackware, I think this will become an invaluable resource to Slackware users the world over. I, for one, plan on contributing as much as possible to this project in whatever ways I can. I'd really encourage everyone to get involved!

Sign-up already. I think they need a forum to communicate with all writers, potential writers, proof reader, etc.

It is totally blank now. Kinda daunting to be the first one to contribute :).

In addition to that, it would be nice to have some kinda concurrent version system for the handbook project. This will help evolving the book content to a more mature and well written form. Without CVS, overwriting a better contribution is quite likely (when the book content is more populated).

And, it is not possible (been just looking at it for about 10 mins, stand corrected) to add new chapter or sub-chapter. Would love to see server/daemon setups, config and tweaking in there as well.

That's a really good idea. I agree that right now the site is a bit, shall we say, rough. I think, however, if madadmin (or whoever's overseeing the project) gets enough constructive criticism/input, then new features that are currently lacking will be added. Since the intent is to make the best documentation possible, it's going to need lots of community support/input/review/etc. I really hope that there will be enough momentum to get it off to a great start! :cool:

They have added mailling list and a few other features to the website. The response is really quick. It was Saturday night!!!
