slackware from sources ...

hello !

Just 2 little questions... i am a beginner

1. is there an automated way to all the slackware source files from the ftp mirror ? I mean without clicking in/out of every directories....?

2. is there an automated way to recompile all the slackware distro and reinstall it?

I don't know if this would improve dramatically my performances but my Pc is fairly old... so if it could help....

thanks.

Slackware is actually compiled for the simplest machine it will run, I think. I'm pretty sure that recompiling the whole thing from source for your machine would be very much like reinventing the wheel. Plus, due to the slow speed of your machine, it would also take forever and a day to compile the whole thing. I'd suggest just sticking with the packaged distribution.

If you use gFTP, you can download whole directories at a time. Try something like that. Using a web browser for ftp is kinda slow for getting a lot of stuff.
