RSync & Kde Compile

Hi I've got a couple of questions

:: Updating to Slackware Current using Rsync ::
I've downloaded unofficial ISO's for Slackware-current a few weeks back & everything works fine so far I want to update the contents of the & have extracted the content of the CD's to /var/slackware-current, Is this command correct ?
rsync -arvz --stats --progress -I --delete-after rsync://rsync.slackware.at/slackware/slackware-current/ /var/slackware-current

:: Compiling from the Slackware Sources keeping Binary Compatibility with slackware packages ::
I want to integrate KWin drop shadow patches from kde-look..org/content/show.php?content=10567

If i patch the slackware sources for kde & run the appropriate .SlackBuild script, will they be binary compatible with the stock slackware kde ? I'm asking this because someone on the page commented that
...... there's no need to recompile all code - just patch, run configure, run make in the directory where the patch is applied, and copy *.so files and kwin.

I was thinking that if i didn't have to compile everything (as in all the kde apps & everything), i could do an explodepkg of the custom Kdebase Package & use diff to find out the chenged files.

RSync & Kde Compile

Wow, over 40 views & no replies

Anyways Here's what I ended up doing to sync slackware current. I Extracted the contents of the 2 CD to /var/slackware-current & issued the following commands

rsync -lvz --stats --progress -I --delete-after rsync://rsync.slackware.no/slackware/slackware-current/*.* /var/slackware-current/
rsync -rlvz --stats --progress -I --delete-after rsync://rsync.slackware.no/slackware/slackware-current/slackware/ /var/slackware-current/slackware/
rsync -rlvz --stats --progress -I --delete-after rsync://rsync.slackware.no/slackware/slackware-current/extra/ /var/slackware-current/extra/
rsync -rlvz --stats --progress -I --delete-after rsync://rsync.slackware.no/slackware/slackware-current/isolinux/ /var/slackware-current/isolinux/

Basically I just updated the root directory which contains the packagelists & changelog, the various packages, the extras folder & the isolinux folder. Hopefully this'll help someone who wants to update slackware-current.

Does anyone have any experience / advice with Custom KDE Compiles ?

Wow, i just today thought about setting this up so i can keep current with multilib thanks for figuring it out already!

I found that http://www.slackwiki.org/Rsync had a lot of useful info for just keeping an up to date current version
