slackware current, adsl connection problem (time out)
I was using Slackware 10.0 and every was ok
now I have updated to slackware current and my adsl connection doesn't work..... I have an ethernet adsl modem, so I use PPPoE I'm using the same old configuration (working on 10.0), but when I launch "adsl-start" I always get the error: TIMED OUT What can I check or configure? (maybe I'm missed of update something, configure something... but I don't know) thanks a lot! |
Maybe u should check the following packages you installed:
tcpip,ppp,bind,rp-pppoe etc. |
or you may try reconfigure everything again running adsl-setup, them you can try adsl-start and if you still cant connect you can check more info about the problem running adsl-connect ...
Or maybe you can turn off/on you modem and see if something changes... |
doing the full install I think all the needed packages should be already installed.......
the strange thing is that I do the same setup routine with adsl-setup, using slackware 10.1 and slackware current.... but with 10.1 this works, with current this doesn't work what can I see using "adsl-connect"? |
Did you get some error messages when you execute the adsl-* commands?
|
adsl-setup => no problem
adsl-start => .................... TIMED OUT (and after some other message I don't remember now)... but it's after the time out error P.S. the really weird thing is that I do the SAME install setup and adsl setup with 10.1 and it's all ok, but this doesn't work with current......... |
Is your current...current ?
(Sorry for asking that, but there were various recent changes in current) |
don't worry keefaz ;)
I have downloaded my current just two days ago, so I think it's current enough :D |
Any error shown if you tail /var/log/syslog after an adsl-start ?
Is dmesg verbose about this ? |
the adsl-start script has a debug mode.
maybe you'll find a clue with that. just do a " export DEBUG=1 " before running "adsl-start ". egag |
Check for new (.new) config files. I always forget :p
|
what are .new files?
|
How many NIC do you have on your machine?
Make sure that the correct NIC (ethX) is configured to the adsl-modem. This is what happend to me after I upgraded my kernel. I added ethernet over firewire into the kernel, and the eth assignment for my NIC which is interfaced to the adsl modem got pushed a notch up. Something to watch out for. |
I have only 1 NIC, so I think it's not the problem or maybe it can be?
when I will put my hands on the pc with slackware current I will try all your suggestions and I will put here the output...... thanks a lot |
