Slackware Convert....help?

Well my good friend is a Windows user and he is constantly having problem. I have tried to talk him into Linux but he will not unless he can do everything in Linux that he can do in Windows. Well I have found everything's equal except AnyDVD. I see from their website that it removes the RPC region. Is there a Linux program that will have the same functionality as AnyDVD?

If you install libdvdcss (and possibly libdvdread) you'll be able to play commercial DVDs that use DRM including those that are not region one.

A couple of comments on the link that Dugan provides.

1. Linking to /dev/dvd in my case didn't work as the link got removed on reboot (udev?) Do:

Quote:
ls -l /dev/dvd*
to see what the raw device is acutally linked to. Give that info to gxine or xine.

2. If the method of enabling DMA given doesn't work. Try adding:

Quote:
append="ide1=noprobe libata.atapi_enabled=1"
to lilo.conf. Using Boot Manager ("Start button" / Settings / System Administration / Boot Manager (LILO) makes it easy.
