Hi! I've looked around and haven't found an answer for this one.

I can't connect to certain big sites on Slackware, say, amazon, citibank, americanexpress. I get a message that the connection's timed out. It's the same whether I use mozilla, konqueror, lynx, whatever.

I had this problem in Slack 10.1, now the same with Slack 11.0 and an upgraded kernel, 2.6. I also tried disabling ipv6 in firefox, to no avail.

I know it's not my DSL connection because I have another computer running Debian on the same connection, and it gets into these sites just fine.

Anyone else had this problem? The weird part is that most sites, like this one right now, works. Please let me know if there's any diagnostic output I can post. I really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

All I can suggest is to check your dns settings, maybe check /etc/resolv.conf to make sure the nameserver is right. It might just be heavy traffic that's causing it. I've been unable to connect to ebay at times.

Thanks, simcox1. I will look at /etc/resolv.conf ... if I finally get around to learning how it works. But would I be able to use the Internet at all if that's what was broken?

I don't think it's the traffic. I mean, I'll try to get into citibank on Slack 11, won't work, then switch over to a Debian machine and get right in.

No one else has this problem, I guess?

I believe these sites use https, then there might be problems with your ssl libraries.
