Slackware backup

Hi gang,
I am running Slackware 8.0 and would like some recommendations on a good backup program (free,
of course) to backup my linux box. I have an
HP 8200i Plus CD-RW available. I have started
to read the CDROM HOWTO but would appreciate
anybody else experiences in backing up
their systems.

Since I am a newbie, please remember that when
making your recommendations. Thanks.

(Currently running kernel 2.2.19)

I design my own backups using scripts, synching apps, and checksums. . . In your case, you can begin by checking out this site out for some backup tools you can use for free.

Slackware backup

I have started to read on the suggestions made
on the first answer to my question. I do have
another question: is it possible to do disk
spanning (read CD's) in linux during a backup?

I hope so because I am sick and tired of floppies
and could not go too far for a full backup of
my system. I am hoping that the same thing one
can do with a program, like winzip in Windows,
one can do with cdrecord or other in Linux,
using a CD/RW. Thanks again for your
feedback.

I believe a couple of the backup programs from the link I posted may have the feature you are looking for. If not, try, cdbackup, or cdbkup.

you can also try to search for such a tool using freshmeat.net.
