Slackware and bittorrent

Hello,

Im a newbie to linux and Im wondering a few things:

1) I am connecting to the internet via a DSL modem using PPPoE. Would it be possible to connect outside the GUI ? ie not running KDE or any other form of X-window.

2) Would it be possible to run bittorrent outside the GUI as well ? (assuming of course that I already have the .torrent files).

3) Does bittorrent come pre-installed on a full install of slackware 9.1 ?

4) Is there any point in waiting for slackware 9.2 or should I install 9.1 right now ?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
-Danodare

You don't need X for a Internet Connection so that will work with or without X KDE etc...

Bittorent won't be in your installation but will be in the extra directory on your cd.

Go into that directory and put installpkg bit*.tgz for installation and bittorent will also run in command mode.

If you mainly want to use slackware for your Desktop there are some benefits for waiting (2.6 kernel for example) But on the other hand updating a 9.1 system should not be so hard....

2. Bittorrent for Linux comes with a curses-based downloader which I actually have come to prefer to the full GUI one. It also has a headless downloader which would be perfect for background downloading.

4. It could be a long wait before 9.2 gets here, and 9.1 is still fairly up to date.

Yeah they need ncurses-es to understand the bittorrent capabilities ! Non of them (slackware standard installation) are really preinstallated with ncurses, they must install it manually, possibly through long long compilation. It is only to hard to unleash in linux or slackware context bittorrent works in conjuction with ncurses babes ..

Instructor for da rat smellies, they need n++curses

"they must install it manually, possibly through long long compilation."

I sure didn't have to do anything extra. ncurses is in the l/ software set, which looks like part of the 'slackware standard installation' to me.
