Slackware 9 - gtk apps cant use control backspace

i just installed slackware 9.
hitting control backspace in gtk applications just backspaces over a letter instead of over the whole word. i searched around a bit and couldnt find any config files that deal with this. i got the latest source for gtk, glib, and all the junk that goes with it. one file in the source has control backspace set to back-over a word, but it doesnt make a difference.

anyone have a similar problem or any ideas?

Are you talking about GTK 1.x or 2.x? It seems that it works just fine for me in GTK 1.x, but not 2.x.
