Slackware 9 DSL routing problem?

Well i dint know if i should post this here but since its prob Slack itself i figured ok. i just installed Slack 9 and when im finished i try and get on netscape and the internet connection isnt there. i have dsl and i use a 4 port router for my laptop(with eth card)
and my xp desktop. cant figure out why i cant get on line. i try to ping a webpage and it says 'unknown host' i had mandrake previously and it automatically connected after installation. so i switched to slack cause i heard it was better so far so good with exception of no internet. if u can help it would be greatly appreciated. When you ran netconfig, what did you
set it up to be, how does your router work?
Fixed IP's, DCP?

Cheers,

I have a 4 port ethernet router as well, and all I had to do in slackware was configure the gate ip to point at the router, and set the subnet mask (all of which slack asks you for in the install network section).

Im guessing you allready did this tho, so can you ping your router and other computers on the network connected through the switch? - just not a website?
