Unhappy Slackware 9 and GRSECURITY

So how does one compile a Slackware 9 kernel with GRsecurity or something else to get a tight kernel?

Slackware 9 kernel has a few patches already, so a plain vanilla kernel.org - you will loose something. These rehashed slack 8 faqs need updating to include the performance patches.

As a side note, BZ2 is in use, and would like to know how to turn this format to tgz. Seems an obvious improvement to installpkg to make it recognise and use bz2 files without requiring intermediate conversion - or is there?

I'd say just try and patch it. Adding the "--dry-run" flag to patch should give you any idea how much rejects there are going to be.
If there aren't that many (most of them will have to do with the scheduler part AFAIK), try to manually fit the rejects back in.

If you're not prepared to do that the next best thing would be to diff the "plain" source from kernel.org with the Slackware source, and decide how many of those additions you really need.
