Slackware 9.1 new kernel compile displays black screen on boot.
I recompiled my Kernel according to the instructions found on this forum: Including the old kernel link in LILO, fortunatly.
now, however, I cannot get any data out of my screen once I get past the lilo prompt into the new kernel, and I have no way of knowing whether this is a total failure or if I simply have no video screen. (although an attempt to blind login and then order the system to reboot did not succeed: still, that may have been user error.) also, the original kernel, when booted, feels it neccesary to do a hard drive scan during boot. any suggestions? running a Cyrix pentium 200, 196 RAM, 384 SWAP, 8 meg ATI vid card. |
What is the last thing you see after selection
at lilo-prompt? What did you chose for a CPU in new kernel, what features for framebuffer and in the processor section did you select? Cheers, Tink |
the hard drive scan thiny could be you using ext2 fs. should at least use ext3 or the newerr still reiserfs.

Recompiled again, this time with 2.6.4 kernel, works beautifully now, and the 2.6 compile options are MUCH nicer than 2.4
of course, there are still a few problems: New post, coming up. |
