slackware 9.1 installation problem

okay, I'm currently sitting in lynks, on a 100Mhz computer. and thats because I've had some problems installing slackware 9.1. the entire installations went fine, and everything was set up ok. i was asked to reboot the system, and so i did. then, when i was about to boot from the hd, (after editing a little bit in bios) everything that comes up on my screen is "LI". it annoys me. i boot the slack live cd, and checks the lilo conf, but its okay! what can possibly be wrong?

LI is usually indicative of a screwed-up lilo. try booting from the rescue floppy (or the cd should work okay if you didn't make a bootdisk) and rerunning lilo. i can't remember off the top of my head what exactly you need enter into the main isolinux screen from the cd, but it should be something like "bare.i root=/dev/hda-your-slack-partition-number." the message given by the cd should help you with this.

Hi,
Where did you install LILO? On the superblock or MBR? MBR is probably the best (even though it can be unsafe, it's always worked for me). This might help too ;) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search

well, I really do'nt know where lilo was installed. Perhaps you could tell me how to find it out?

Well, I don't think you can find out...but here's what you can do:

Boot off your CD, and at the boot prompt, type:
bare.i root=/dev/hdxx noinitrd
where xx is where linux is installed (eg hda1, hda2, hdb1 etc).
When the system finishes booting, run liloconfig, do all the config (post back if you need help), and install lilo on the MBR when it asks. It will give you the choices MBR, Superblock, and floppy.
Good luck!
