Unhappy Slackware 9.1 & Alsa mute...

Just upgraded to Slackware 9.1. I have a sound mute issue for normal users. No issues when i am root, so obviously its a permissions thing. I have read other posts and have taken some of the suggestions that have been made. I have added myself to the "sys" group, but still no luck. I would rather not have to change permissions on objects in the /dev/ location. Is there a way to make this work. Its extreemly frustrating.

Can anyone help me with this?

How did you add yourself to the "sys" group? If you just edited the /etc/group file, then the changes will not take effect until your next login, I believe.

I did it the cheezy way and went into KDE and used the "Users & Groups" graphical program. I rebooted and it did not help.

AFAIK you have to change permissions on dsp devices for them to work with users unless you change user or group
