Slackware 9.0 and two (hopefully..) simple problems

hello!
i am using slackware 9.0 and having these two problems so far:
at one point when i was using kde (this has happened more than once for me) i got a popup message saying "KDEinit could not launch 'kfmclient' " and i could no longer start any apps through kde untill i re-logged on kde. Is there a way i can prevent that problem from happening again in the future?

The second problem is dealing with my NVidia GeForce4 Ti4200. I successfully compiled and installed (with make, make install) both the Kernel and GLX tar files. I changed my /etc/X11/XF86Config file so it loads "nvidia" instead of "nv" and i can easily run startx now. The only problem with this though is that when i try to use anything pertaining to GL the program (i tested this with the screensavers included with slackware 9.0) they either do not start or crash after they start. When i logout from KDE i can see the message

" Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

I positiive i have the GLX package installed with the same version (4363) of the NVidia kernel tarfile. I'm not sure if the problem is because slackware 9.0 does not come with a mesa or opengl package (and i would need to install a copy from thier websites) or if its just somethin wrong with my system or how i have it configured.

Any help would be very apreciated!

Thankyou,
mike

Mike - what version of KDE are you running? The version that came with the stock Slack installation caused similar problems for me. Upgrading to a more recent version of KDE may solve the problem. I'm using 3.1.2 on one machine and 3.1.3 on the other; the latest version is 3.1.4. Good luck with it. Check out http://www.kde.org/download/ or ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/kde/stable/ (Note that for the Oregon site the Slack version appears under "contrib") -- J.W.
