slackware 8.1 and kde 3.1 and gnome 2.2?

how easy is it to upgrade to either kde 3.1 and/or gnome 2.2 from slackware 8.1? could I just download the slack packages from the current tree and do an upgradepkg for all of them? thanks for any clues

Not sure about KDE since I stay away and don't use it but to upgrade to Gnome 2.2, the easiest way I know of is to use DropLine Gnome.

Packages from slackware-current are not compatible with Slackware 8.1, as slackware-current is built with a newer GCC.

do you have to uninstall the gnome that came with slackware first before you put in dropline gnome?

no it's real easy to do. That's one of the first things I tried and it went really smooth. Just go to there website, Download the installer follow the install instruvtions which only consist of

"# installpkg dropline-installer-2.0.3-i386-1.tgz
# dropline-installer"

and then let the gui do the rest.

It's that simple when you are done you have the latest version of Gnome

hope that helps

KDE 3.1 was super easy, I just downloaded the files from the ftp that had listed for the binaries and let package manager do the rest. After reboot everything runs fine.
