Slackware 2.6 Kernel - No USB?

Hi,

Ive just installed slackware with the 2.6 kernel, and i had to use a ps2 keyboard to install as my USB one didnt work. Now its installed, neither my usb keyboard or mouse will work, the keyboard works fine in the bios and lilo, but once i get to the shell login its dead, and if i use a ps2 keyboard to start x, the mouse is dead to. I also got an error in X about there being no sound device or something .

Any ideas on why this isnt working? Ive had it working under the 2.4 kernel before .

My motherboard is the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.

Is it easy to fix these usb/sound issues? or shall i just go back to the 2.4 kernel, which i coudnt install because my SATA hdd wasnt detected .

Thanks for any help.
Jack

If you use test26.s kernel, you must install kernel-modules and alsa from testing/.

I'll give you the steps, you may want to search more about this, there are a lot of posts here on the forum.

Basically, you need to mount Slackware CD 2 and install three packages from linux-2.6.13 directory there.
The steps assuming /dev/cdrom is pointing to your CD reader and you're root:
Code:
# mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
# cd /mnt/cdrom/linux-2.6.13
# installpkg alsa-driver-1.0.9b_2.6.13-i486-1.tgz
# installpkg kernel-modules-2.6.13-i486-1.tgz
# installpkg kernel-source-2.6.13-noarch-1.tgz
# cd /
# umount /mnt/cdrom
# shutdown -r now
Edit: I've just saw this on Installation sub-forum, it's better explained if you want to check: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=443935

I have 10.2 on a sata system with usb enabled. Downloaded a new kernel from kernel.org and did the make menuconfig process. You need the CONFIG_USB_HID=y, CONFIG_USB_HIDINPUT=y settings on in .config and CONFIG_SCSI_SATA to suit as well. lspci on your running kernel to see what devices you have.
