Slackware 14

Hi,
today i removed my slackware 13.37 and installed slackware 14.
the first problem i encountered was, i couldn't install amd driver.
does i need amd driver?
in 13.37 the only thing i was using after installed driver is amd control center made more easier to enable/disable extra monitor for extended desktop. Is there any application for this purpose?
about sound problem, in this version there isn't alsaconf, and i can't use 2 applications simultaneous playing sound like in version 13.37. this moment i can only use one application each time with sound .
for example, if i'm listening music using audacious, and open mplayer to see the movie, appear the message saying the device is blocked or occupied. how do i configure this?

Which video card do you have?

is netbook (asus 1051bx) with radeon hd 6290.

The current AMD driver (Catalyst 12.8) should work fine with that card, what errors do you get when you try to install them?

they are versioned as "3.2.29-smp"
instead of "3.2.29".
you might need to adjust your symlinks:
- /usr/include
- /usr/src/linux

MPlayer and KPlayer worked out of the box for me but had that same problem with VLC, got it fixed by going into the Audio settings and picking the correct module (Alsa) and audio device (picked the one that worked by trial and error to be honest with you).
It should be similar in MPlayer, look under Preferences --> Audio for the available drivers (Alsa?) then click configure and select the device that works.

as i am now, this too much information for me, i'm newbie. let imagine that i can install the driver. is there any improvement if i do so?

Before Slackware 14 release, I use slackware-current source update my slackware 13.37 .(I fond the version was 14).
I install ATI Driver(From AMD official website),it had the same problem.

Today ,Slackware 14 release.I notice Slackware 14 use X.org 7.7 But ATI official only support X.org 7.6
I think that's the reason.
If you have solution,please tell me

Although the AMD website claims that the newest supported version is 7.6 I could install both drivers, Catalyst 12.6 Legacy (Radeon HD 3200, 32 bit) and Catalyst 12.8 (Radeon HD6870, 64 bit), without any problems and they are running flawlessly.

What you really want to do is switch to the SMP kernel. The CPU in your computer handles more than one thread and you'll get significantly better performance that way. In fact, using the non-SMP kernel isn't recommended for any machine unless the SMP one doesn't work.
