Slackware 14.0 - boot from USB ( Labels in fstab and lilo ) ?
Hello!
There are an complete instruction about install and configure slack 14 to usb devices ( usb flash / sd flash / usb hdd ) ? i mean - really instructions what to do all root= and so on via labels or UUID ( better - via labels), because usb devices sda / sdb / sdc assignations may vary, and as so in general adressations like root=/dev/sda1 and so not working....) ? now i try to get it things work on wifes eeepc 1000H via kingston SD 32 Gb card and slackware 14.0 32bit. install is done, now i try to generate initrd, but not sure, i can victory without help ;) some years ago i try the same with slack 13.37 32bit, and in final found, a that version lilo do not support adressing via labels and UUID - some peoples write, a x64 version with rewriting lilo work ok with that, but x32 requires patching... |
Anyone can tell me, where i can see, what module is required for asus eeepc 1000h internal cardreader?
my config wont boot - says root device cannot found. rootdelay=30 not help, in system output i cannot see anothing drive other than sda and sdb ( internal solid disc drives) - looks like my securedigital card not see at all because kernel and initrd not have a cardreader drivers...? |
Last state:
in fstab i have redacted content like LABEL=FLASH32 / ext4 defaults 1 1 and LABEL=slack122 /second ext3 defaults 1 2 instead of /dev/sdd1 / ext4 defaults 1 1 and so on. it works without problem. then i change lilo.cfg construction like image=/boot/vmlinuz root="LABEL=FLASH32" label= Linux_flash read-only - not work. write "kernel panic - not syncing: VFS:uNABLE TO MOUNT ROOT fs on unknown-block (0,)". when i change there ( lilo.cfg ) root= "LABEL=FLASH32" to root=/dev/sdc1 then boots ok. that sign again big problems with labels in lilo, as i understand. now is 2012 year, and until that we have crappy lilo for years? :( maybe anyone know workaround or so on? |

If not, this should be your first step in getting any removable device to boot. Hit the little magic button the bootup screen tells you to and follow from there. It will likely be the <F1> or <F2> key, but your Eee PC may be different from my 701SD unit. |
