Slackware 13 and CUPS

I have installed Slackware 13 on one of the hard disks of my computer in order that I can get it working properly before changing over from 12.2.

My main problem is that I cannot get CUPS to change from 'Letter', which I presume is an American size, to A4, has anyone else had experience of this problem? All suggestions as to a solution are welcomed.

Yes, that is what I did do, and is what the problem is. No matter how many attempts I make at resetting the printer options to A4 paper size, the printer is producing a broken 'Letter' sized test page. On the previous version of Slackware, using the same set up, changing from 'Letter' to A4 produces a perfect A4 test page

I can't speak for how the printer handles things, but if I remember right UK A4 and US Letter are not quite the exact same size.

UK Letter seems to be 8.5" by 11" (216 x 279mm)
A4 is 210 by 297mm.

You might want to google these sizes if it matters, my ruler may be drunk right now.

You can look at /etc/cups/ppd/ and locate your driver, when find it edit the file as root and search string: *DefaultPageSize: Letter, and change for *DefaultPageSize: A4.
I think that it will work.

Thank you so much for your reply, I have had a look at /etc/cups/ppd/ and it is set to *DefaultPageSize: A4, so the problem would seem to lie elsewhere.

Further to my previous response, I have printed the /etc/cups/ppd from 12.2 and compared it, (line by line, all 11 A4 pages), with the /etc/cups/ppd in 13 and as far as I can see they are both the same. This really is puzzling as there seems to be no reason as to why the one works and the other dosen't. Thank you to all who have replied so far.

If I remember correctly, you might have to change several lines of your printer config file to A4 format, not only one. And a wild guess: Does your locale of the two systems differ? Might be result of using en_US locale maybe ...

All the locales are set to United Kingdom, (otherwise I get a keyboard with the @ and " keys transposed, and other alterations that are not quite so obvious).

It realy is a puzzle, I have this morning just ensured that all the page settings, Firefox, KOffice, and Open office are set to A4, still no difference. When or if I get this to work I'll post the answer.
